At Schroders Personal Wealth (SPW) we want to make a difference in the communities we work. This is why we champion volunteering and charitable initiatives that are close to our hearts.

Earlier this year we asked colleagues to help us choose our charity partner, and following a vote, we’re very proud to announce our partnership with Groundwork.

Groundwork is a federation of charities mobilising practical community action on poverty and the environment across the UK. They offer specific programmes according to the communities' needs and realities.

Groundwork is also passionate about creating a future where every neighbourhood is vibrant and green, every community is strong and able to shape its own destiny, and no-one is held back by their background or circumstances.

Why have we chosen Groundwork?

As an accredited member of the Good Business Charter, we are committed to being a responsible business and making a positive contribution to society.

Groundwork works alongside some of the most disadvantaged communities in the UK. As the cost of living continues to increase with a combination of rising petrol prices, rising energy costs and rising inflation hitting the nation’s pockets hard, SPW and Groundwork are committed to boosting the financial confidence and financial resilience of those that are likely going to be impacted most by this.

How we’ll be working with them

We’ve worked with Groundwork to create a ‘Money Mentors’ package of financial literacy training that will see Groundwork employees up-skilled in financial confidence enabling them to provide practical guidance for those in need.

We believe this support will help people to feel more informed about their financial choices and the services available to them, as well as instilling a sense of confidence as people learn the skills to be able to take control of their finances.

As a national charity, Groundwork will be rolling out this support to the communities it works with across the country and during our 12-month partnership aims to support at least 500 people.

What’s next?

Now that the training has been rolled out, we’ll be working with Groundwork to measure its success and hope that at least 90% of beneficiaries feel better equipped with new money management tactics, 80% feel empowered and confident when it comes to financial planning and 90% feel more informed to make the choices that are right for them.

SPW’s People Director, Marietta Connery said “We’re committed to being a responsible business and making a positive contribution in our communities and wider society. Our partnership with Groundwork aligns perfectly with our strong belief in the importance of financial wellbeing and education which, now more than ever, is such an important topic and one we feel incredibly passionate about.

The comprehensive financial literacy package we have developed alongside Groundwork is making a real difference in the communities they work with.”

Graham Duxbury, Groundwork’s UK Chief Executive, said: “Now more than ever it’s vital that we help people take more control of their finances. In a cost of living crisis we need to do everything we can to ensure people have the skills and support they need to make the most of their money while also providing information about the debt relief services and other support that they can access. We are pleased to be working alongside Schroders Personal Wealth so that we can improve our own ability to provide this support to those who need it most.”
