Celebrating Our Commitment to the Armed Forces

At Schroders Personal Wealth we are proud to support the Armed Forces and their families through various initiatives and activities. In June we recognised Armed Forces Week and Reserves Day, providing the perfect opportunity for us to reflect on the ways we have shown our commitment and continued to support the Armed Forced community.

Achieving the Gold Award

In 2021, we signed the Armed Forces Covenant, and in 2023, we were proud to announce that we had achieved the Gold Award under its Employer Recognition Scheme. The Armed Forces Covenant is the nation’s commitment to those who proudly protect our nation with honour, courage, and commitment. It is a pledge that together we acknowledge and understand that those who serve or have served in the armed forces, and their families, should be treated with fairness and respect in the communities, economy, and society in which they serve with their lives.

Recognising Armed Forces Week and Reserves Day

Armed Forces Week, held from 24th to 29th June, and Reserves Day on 26th June, are significant dates dedicated to honouring the contributions of our Armed Forces community. Reservists play a vital role in our national security, balancing their civilian lives with military careers. We are proud to support our colleagues who are Reservists by offering at least 10 days of paid time off for training or events.

Our Armed Forces Network

Our Armed Forces Network has been instrumental in championing our commitment to becoming a forces-friendly employer. The network has facilitated various activities, including several recent volunteering and fundraising events:

  • On 12th July, two colleagues participated in ‘RAFA Jumps,’ completing a tandem skydive to raise money for the RAF Association (RAFA). So far, over £2000 has been raised!
  • Several colleagues volunteered their time conducting outreach wellbeing calls to help those in need from RAFA.
  • On Saturday 17th May, a team of six colleagues took part in the Cumbrian Challenge in the Lake District, raising money for Walking with the Wounded, a charity aiding ex-service personnel and their families. The challenge involved a 21km hike with a total ascent of 1,020m. The team completed the hike in 26-degree heat and raised over £2,600 for the cause! Clinton Page and Grace Ingram reflect on their experience of the challenge.

It was a great day and incredibly rewarding not only because we were supporting this extremely worthwhile cause, but also to have been part of a team that supported each other so well on the day to ensure we all completed the challenge.

Over the course of the weekend, all of us had the chance to hear firsthand from the charity about the challenges veterans can face when leaving the military and how the team at Walking With The Wounded supports them in reigniting their sense of purpose. It was an amazing challenge to be part of. The walk was tough at times, but it was such a great experience, meeting new people, working as a team, and trekking through the Lake District, all for an incredible cause.

Looking Ahead

As we look to the future, we remain steadfast in our commitment to supporting the Armed Forces. We are dedicated to gaining reaccreditation for the Gold Award in 2028 and continuing to provide meaningful support to our Armed Forces community.

We are incredibly proud of the progress we have made and the positive impact of our initiatives. Together, we will continue to honour and support those who protect our nation with courage and dedication.
