Power of Attorney
A Power of Attorney (POA) is a legal document that enables an individual (the “donor”) to appoint another (the “attorney”) to act on their behalf.
A POA can only be set up when the donor has sufficient mental capacity to understand and instruct the appointment of their attorney.
There are different types of POAs depending on the type of decisions the donor wishes the attorney to make on their behalf, for example if they wish the attorney to act for financial and property matters and/or welfare and health decisions.
How can SPW help?
If you are thinking about setting up a Power of Attorney we can put you in touch with a solicitor who can discuss your wishes and help set one up for you.
Alternatively, if you are acting as an attorney for one of our clients, we can help you register the POA with us so that we can support you in dealing with the client’s financial affairs.

Protecting yourself against scams
Visit our scam protection page to find out information on types of scams, how to protect yourself, and who to contact if you feel you have been a victim of a scam.
