In December 2024 Schroders Personal Wealth (SPW) colleagues across the UK took part in ‘Walking Home’ – Walking With The Wounded's (WWTW), annual winter fundraising campaign to raise money to support veterans and their families.
This event brought colleagues together in teams across Leeds, London, Bristol, Cardiff, and more, each setting a target of walking 12 miles, knowing every step taken and penny raised will help change lives.
‘Walking With The Wounded’, are a leading military charity helping to get those who have served and their families back on their feet. Whether mentally, socially or physically wounded, the charity helps deliver the care and support veterans need and empower those struggling after military service, reigniting their sense of purpose, enabling them to make a positive contribution to their communities and to lead independent lives.
Around 70 SPW colleagues participated in the event, raising over £5,500! This is the second time we’ve taken part in this fantastic annual challenge, and we are proud to support such a worthwhile cause.
Hear Katie Wakeling, event organiser, reflect on the event and the impact we've made for veteran communities:
This is the second year I have taken part in the Walking with the Wounded ‘Walking Home event. The event is always attended by WWTW staff and this year, we were lucky enough to be accompanied by some ex-veterans themselves. It’s a great way to collaborate with the charity and really understand the work that they do and to hear first-hand, the benefit of the money we have raised. I feel very proud to support WWTW and know that we are changing the lives of ex-service personnel who have served our country.
At SPW, we are proud supporters of the Armed Forces. In 2021, we signed the Armed Forces Covenant, and in 2023, we were proud to announce that we had achieved the Gold Award under its Employer Recognition Scheme. The Armed Forces Covenant is the nation’s commitment to those who proudly protect our nation with honour, courage, and commitment. It is a pledge that together we acknowledge and understand that those who serve or have served in the armed forces, and their families, should be treated with fairness and respect in the communities, economy, and society in which they serve with their lives.
